Marklin Post-war Heavy Freight Trains

This video shows two heavy post-war freight trains in operation on my Marklin layout. A Class 52 freight engine hauls a good-sized train on the outside loop; note the fine Brawa cars near the tail end. A dependable Class 91 freight motor works the inside loop. An unusual four-axle glass tanker by Marklin rolls in this consist. The music in the background is from the Brandenberg Concerto, although it may be somewhat faint. [ go to Youtube.com ]

Of Diesels and Freight Cars-- Scranton, Pennsylvania

Steamtown, August 11, 2008. No steam to be found on this rainy visit, but we did see NKP GP9 No. 514 dutifully pushing its two car Scranton Limited around the yard. There was freight action going on on the Delaware Lackawanna, but we kept managing to miss it... we'd leave, come back, and find that long strings of freight cars had moved around the freight sidings in our absence. A nice little head-on meet just East of LaFox as our Eastbound METRA meets a Union Pacific piggy-back/container freight. Watch as our METRA engineer slows at crossing as he is worried that waiting car will creep around the end of the freight. During this trip we saw numerous pedestrians violating the gate rules.
